Monolithically pitched under the Indore skies of Northcentral India is a unique work of architecture that recently jumped into the DSGN arcHive radar. A unique home designed for a family deeply rooted in faith and nurturing of their ethnic background. Whilst tradition whispers through the corridors of its stunning design, the intervention showcases an unexpected contemporary twist catering towards their otherwise global tastes. The strike of balance between the two realms is what conceives ‘the USP’ of this abode, and we are more than glad to tell you all about it.
The traditional aspect of the design especially comes to life in the layout as it adheres to Vaastu Principles. A double-height court lounge occupies the heart of the layout or ‘Brahmasthana’, from where all activities radiate peripherally to form a rectangular plan. The central court is also subtly deviceful in dividing all floor layouts into two wings, the East and West wings. The layouts also respect Vaastu compliant locations and orientations for certain functions in the house like the temple, kitchen, master bed suite etc.
Through the entire piece of Architecture, the East wing accommodates more communal activities, leveraging ample sunlight for enhanced family interactions. Spaces like the living – guest and family, dining, temple, pool deck, gym occupy this wing.
While the West wing zones for private and non-habitable spaces with the need for calmer daylight intensities like bed & bath, kitchen & pantry, staircase. The architecture also caters to manipulating the quality of light filtration where strategic elements like louvres, large overhanging decks, cavity walls and deep terraces come into play.
The interior stage of ‘The House with Poise’ is an honest showcase of the owner’s personality, his bold and liberal tastes in the arts, his affinity towards style variations, and an awareness of the latest in contemporary design.
The canvas of each space is unique and is complemented aptly with carefully curated furniture and decor to set the right tone.
The communal spaces of the ground floor sport different compositions with a singular palette of neutrals, taupes and accents of Prussian blue. Natural stones, timber, and texture-rich fabrics like suedes, Oregon carpeting, soft sheer drapes enrich the space. Furniture, art statuettes, sculptures, and unique lighting fixtures are brought to the fore against this canvas.
The essence of the building is indeed its virtue of ‘Poise’ and it is with poise that two ethnically different styles can unite to conceive a unique stage of expression. An expression that a family can indeed represent themselves with, proudly call their own and indeed call their home.
