ESCAPING THE CITY

Far away from the overwhelming and viscerally stimulating experiences of the city of Mumbai, sits a hidden refuge. It is anchored along the banks of the Arabian sea, staring into the unfamiliar expanse and calm of its scintillating waters with a sense of liberty. This vantage point that is indeed a refuge, isn’t completely released from the inescapable vibes of the city. In the midst of intense dialogue and laughter, tinkling of champagne flutes and a jazz pianist busy at the keys of a grand piano, the city’s effervescent atmosphere has cunningly trickled into a stunning Lounge bar. Pitched into one of the most premium properties at one end of the Queen’s Necklace on Marine Drive, is ‘Eau Bar’, of the Oberoi hotel.

On the premise of its picturesque location and unparalleled vantage point, the interior design scheme had no choice but to step up to the plate to produce a one-of-kind avant garde lounge.

THE DESIGN

The design intervention of Eau Bar is an introduction to absolute grandeur and opulence, within the anatomy of the 5-Star hotel. Set across a 5500 sq ft floor space, the Eau Bar is subdivided into 3 sections. The core lounge space, which is the primary event of the layout, accommodates a large sunken lounge, bar and a corner stage for performances. It is flanked on either side by an intimately set Private lounge on one side, and a spill out lounge deck and bar on the other with unobstructed views of the Arabian Sea.

The Core

With a stage set to ignite jazz melodies, the core space resonates this spirit into its design containing the harmony within crimson-red velvet fluted wall panels that span from floor to ceiling. Streaks of scintillating brass fixtures against the fabric fluting and concealed downlights instils a regal finesse and style to the lounge. Although this space is largely obstructed with a structural column centrally located to its layout, the designers strategically treated this element as a boon rather than a bane to the intervention, transforming it into a breathtaking centrepiece. The column is elegantly clad with black granite and accessorized with the most stunning silhouette of a tree constructed with 800 metres of brass foliage.

The tree takes root from the floor and terminates into a generous canopy at the ceiling. Shielding the entire space into a scintillating celebration. Complimenting this rich base palette are warmer tones of hardwood floors, and softer beige toned furniture & carpets create a balance. Pops of bottle-green marble tabletops instill a hint of contrast and surprise as they get elegantly illuminated under tabletop lamps.

The Private Lounge

For a more subdued and intimate setting, the adjoining indoor Private lounge sets the perfect stage for just that. It emulates the aesthetic language of the core lounge in an attempt to partially unite the core and Private lounges as one. An overgrowth of tastefully intertwined brass foliage and spotlights levitating from the ceiling hint at a bigger picture that is mysteriously hidden behind the fluted glass partition of the core lounge.

The spill-out Bar and Lounge Deck

The beckoning scenery of the sea beyond naturally draws one closer in proximity to it from the outdoor terrace bar and spill-out lounge deck, adjoining the core lounge. Here amid lush greenscapes, the decks cascade gently into two levels with the bar elevated onto the higher terrace abutting the sea facing edge. The bar is delicately veiled on either side by sweet scented palms and a frangipani tree, adding quite a tropical finesse to the spot.

The lower terrace accommodates a sunken black stone alcove lounge seating amid peripheral cascading water features and fresh landscaping.

The aesthetics of the outdoor decks sport a less formal look with rustic finishes, encouraging a much needed change of scene of a calming nature.

AESTHETIC MELODY

The awe inspiring interior design of Eau Bar, is indeed an extravagant escapade from the tense cityscapes of Mumbai. Promising, an enriching experience of being one with its crimson regality, a banquet of offerings to relish, a medley of smooth melodies to immerse into; and the best vantage point to visually conquer the high seas.
