Since launching in 2002 with just a small team, EDL has skyrocketed to industry prominence. Their new headquarters is a stunning testament to their journey, blending creativity and cutting-edge design in a way that’s truly unforgettable.
We had the pleasure of visiting EDL’s stunning HQ and getting the inside scoop from the company’s directors and second-generation leaders: Daphne, Eleanor, and Desiree, the daughters of Mr. Richard Lim, Group CEO of EDL Pte Ltd. But before we dive into the details, let’s give you a quick peek at what makes this company so special.
EDL is the go-to name for High Pressure Laminates in the region. Based in Singapore, they’ve spread their wings to serve architects and designers across Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. Since 2002, EDL has been all about top-notch, design-focused materials. Their laminates, crafted from premium raw materials sourced from Italy, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan, highlight their commitment to quality. The new EDL headquarters is a masterclass in architectural storytelling, thanks to Formwerkz Architects. The building’s facade unfolds like a 3D storybook, with each section mirroring different chapters of the company’s journey and values. The interlocking architectural volumes symbolize various business functions, while the central stair core—crafted from off-form concrete and metal mesh—draws inspiration from EDL’s laminate catalogue. It’s a bold, guiding feature that leads visitors through the building’s captivating narrative.
Inside this architectural gem, you’ll find a gallery that’s all about sparking creativity and innovation. Set up in different themed zones, each area offers a unique sensory experience that’ll leave you inspired. Let’s dive right in…

In our opinion, this is the most inspiring space around. It’s like stepping into a serene forest retreat showcasing EDL’s wood decor collection. Pull-out displays let you see laminates in full size, sparking creativity and thoughtful design. Vibrant tables and indoor “treehouses” narrate the story of different laminate collections, from large formats to the latest additions and top sellers. The best part? Light adjustment buttons behind each treehouse let you tweak the lighting to see samples in different conditions. This setup, with full laminate sheets, ensures no surprises during installation and really highlights the potential of EDL’s designs.
The Cavern is a real showstopper, sparking surprise and curiosity with its clever design. Picture glowing caves showcasing abstract laminates that highlight stunning collections of stone, marble, fabric, and intricate patterns. As you wander through, the dynamic lighting makes everything pop, giving you a fresh perspective before you dive back into the rest of the gallery. At Module Spa, discover how Japanese wall cladding materials from EDL Module transform the space into a serene, spa-like oasis. These materials not only enhance the ambiance but also create the perfect setting for relaxation and contemplation. We couldn’t get enough of the stunning mural, which was painstakingly crafted and meticulously assembled by skilled craftsmen. This intricate piece, made from large panels and modular tiles on curved surfaces, showcases nearly the entire module collection. Consequently, it highlights the incredible impact of EDL’s materials in designing a truly calming retreat.
Viefe Studio is a must-see for design enthusiasts, featuring a carefully curated collection of designer handles, knobs, wall hooks, and door stoppers. We couldn’t take our eyes off the vibrant wall mural, made entirely from the studio’s own pieces. Viefe Studio shows that thoughtful design details can truly elevate both the functionality and style of your home.
Sustainability is at the heart of EDL’s design, and it’s on full display at their headquarters and gallery. They’ve repurposed materials in some really inventive ways:
Repurposed Compact Offcuts
EDL’s team worked their magic, turning Compact offcuts into a show-stopping lampshade at the gallery entrance.
Laminate Samples as Ornaments
Old laminate offcuts and discontinued samples got a stunning makeover as suspended ornaments that resemble lush forest foliage.
Sustainable Art Wall
Module panel offcuts were given a second life as a cool art wall. It’s a great example of how discarded materials can be turned into a striking piece, showcasing the magic of creative reuse!
QR Code Mural
Ever explored a QR code in 3D? This wall mural transforms old edgebands into a stunning QR code, blending art and tech in a way that’s both eye-catching and interactive. Also, don’t miss checking out the QR code from the side—it mimics the vibrant rainbow colors of Kueh Lapis, a popular Southeast Asian sweet treat!
EDL proves that sustainability and style go hand in hand!
EDL’s new headquarters and gallery are more than just a workspace—they’re a vibrant hub for creativity and collaboration. This regional hotspot not only supports existing markets but also opens doors to new opportunities. EDL’s story is about more than its impressive 54,000 sqft headquarters and its leading role in the High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) industry.
